Moving floor trailer with hydraulic roof sees to quick and safe operation
In the development of existing or new moving floor trailers, once question is always central to Kraker Trailers: will this make the trailer even more user friendly and does it enable the carrier to realize higher return using this vehicle? That is also how the moving floor trailer with hydraulic roof was developed and perfected by Kraker Trailers. The demand for trailers with such a roof is continuously increasing, since the benefits are becoming more and more obvious.
Freddy de Klerk, active in the engineering department at the Masters in Moving Floor Trailers is closely involved throughout this development process.

A new type of roof, consisting of standardized components that can also be used for other types of roofs, allowing for more voluminous and with that, cheaper procurement, that was the principle in the development. Another important element is the time factor. The assembly of the components had to be simplified, in order to reduce the time needed for construction, but also for repairs or maintenance. And all that without making compromises in terms of quality and reliability. Not a simple task, one might say, but the job is done.

"After creating a rough idea of what we wanted to achieve, we talked to customers who have moving floor trailers with hydraulic roofs. That way, we gained even more insight into how things work in the field, and this information appeared to be extremely useful for the entire development process”, de Klerk says.

The roof is powered by the (standard) hydraulic system of the truck. After closure, the roof is locked pneumatically or by means of span strips. Due to this construction the swivel bar can still be used, which is a major plus in the unloading process of voluminous materials in particular. The basis for this is the swing motor that was already being used by Kraker Trailers for various types of hydraulic roofs.

The result is a new roof in which the majority of the components can also be used for a complete roof or for a twofold two-piece environment roof. In addition, the new roof has a symmetrical design, meaning that it doesn’t matter at which side the roof is opened. The use of trailers, equipped with a hydraulic roof combined with tailgate, is expected to increase further in the future.

The use of trailers, equipped with an hydraulic roof (whether or not combined with tailgate) is expected to increase further in the future, since the opening and closing process of the roof is a matter of seconds, as opposed to manually opening and closing a tarpaulin.
In addition, a trailer with an hydraulic roof makes it possible to transport one extra cargo per day – in short distance transport – thanks to the time savings due to working with such a roof. Equally important is that the safety for the driver increases, because he doesn’t have to climb the trailer, but can open and close the roof from the ground.
